A Complete Unknown

I'm a 16-year-old high schooler in California with a passion for music, math, and technology.

A Complete Unknown is a 2024 biopic by acclaimed director Baz Luhrmann about legendary singer and songwriter Bob Dylan. The film covers Bob Dylan's journey with music from his arrival in Minnesota to the infamous crowd-disappointing Newport Folk Festival of 1965. I'm excited to see the performance of Timothee Chalamet and how he and the film portray Bob Dylan. I believe that the biggest takeaway of Bob Dylan and his legacy is that he was the voice of a generation, especially during the Civil Rights Movement, as he was an advocate for change.

The film must steer away from stereotypes of conventional biopics. One example of this is to use Bob Dylan's music not only as part of the soundtrack but also as a storytelling device to show his cultural and personal evolution through his career and life. Another example of this is to highlight tensions between sticking with tradition and pursuing innovation organically, which has been a difficult task to portray in recent music biopics.

As a singer, songwriter, and musician, I feel a connection to Bob Dylan and a similar urge to make my voice heard in the world while I am still "a complete unknown".
